Forty Per Cent of Aussies Aged 18-24 Haven't Had Sex, With Tech & Social Media To Blame

Believe it or not, young people in Australia are currently experiencing the painful decline of their sexual desires.

In fact, the data shows that the frequency of sexual activity among teenagers is 50% lower than that of their parents. 40% of Australians aged 18 to 24 stated that they have never engaged in sexual activity.

With the advancement of technology and the popularity of social media, the connections among humans have become closer than ever before. However, this has actually led to the current decline in sexual life.

Sexologist Jacqueline Helier told The Daily Telegraph that dating apps, social media and pornographic content are replacing real interpersonal interactions. Generation Z is losing the ability to have face-to-face communication.

She said that young people are missing out on "tone, body language and interpersonal communication". These are all things that you can acquire when meeting potential dates in real life.

Hillery also pointed out that dating apps offer young people an infinite range of choices, but they get overwhelmed by the options and end up being dissatisfied with their potential partners.

Condom sales have declined.

The decline in sexual activity has become extremely serious, even affecting the condom business.

Just yesterday, B&T reported on the latest campaign carried out by the creative agency CHE Proximity for the Four Seasons condoms.

The core of this activity is the "Generational Intervention Package" - a set of educational toolkits. It helps parents become surrogate sex therapists and enables them to intervene in their adult children's lives.

Michael Porter, the sales and marketing director of Seasons Condom Company, said: "Young people face more obstacles in terms of sex than ever before. The rise of social media has deprived them of genuine connections with others, and using social media can also cause them to feel lonely, anxious and depressed."

"Nearly a quarter of young people in Australia are facing mental health issues. We hope to create an opportunity this year for parents to understand their children's conditions."

Although nearly half of the young people have never engaged in sexual activity, another 15% have sexual intercourse at least once a month. Among people aged 40-49, nearly 30% have sexual intercourse at least once a month.

Furthermore, according to a recent survey conducted by the Australian Conversation Organization among 55,000 Australians, two-thirds of the people in their 30s have sexual intercourse at least once a month.

Pornographic films also contribute to the decline of sexual desire among young people. Both men and women tend to compare themselves with the images they see online.
